honestly, the thought that she was black did not even cross my mind for a moment until she got all upset at me (because skin color really has about as much affect on how I look at/treat people as hair color. none whatsoever.)

her hair just framed her face nicely and had pretty highlights that shone on her curls and sighhhh

I’m so oppressive and exoticizing for admiring natural curls

all this hair drama on my dash reminds me of this time that the girl sitting next to me in chem was talking about how she was considering getting her naturally kinky hair chemically relaxed
and so I shared my input like everyone else was and said “I think your hair is gorgeous the way it is, too”
and she got so pissed at me because I’m white and that means I was insulting her (?)
and that was the last time I tried to compliment someone’s natural curls

the more I read U.S news involving states like North Carolina and Florida and the deep south
the more I wish it was physically possible to detach California from the entire continent of North America and pretend that we have nothing to do with any of them as we float off into the pacific ocean
